We left our berth at Queensway Quay around 0900 motored to the fuel berth and then into Marina Bay marina to wave goodbye to

Piper. Set off for the Mediterranean at last! Not much wind to start with and we passed close to the east side of the rock so was able to take some good pictures. Our progress east was fast and once the wind got up we were under full sail –stomping along at over 10 knots at times! The sea was relatively flat but that was to change later! Suffice to say our speed continued as the wind increased and before dark we had put in two reefs and rolled in the head sail to a third for comfortable night sailing. Our progress east was fine but the seas became quite big with a confused following sea which led to rolling and pitching most of the night so not much sleep was had. Our destination of Almerimar was reached around 0300 so we decided to press on and had hopes of getting all the way to Cartegena however the wind gradually died and so we decided to find a suitable anchorage for the night. The bay to the north of Cabo de Gata proved to be excellent and we had a good night’s sleep here. (reading Kishorn’s emails it seems they too chose this as a good stop-over).

We left this spot around 0600 and had to motor all the way to Cartegena.
