Santa Maria Navarrese

Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June

We had a straight forward motor to this delightful place passing along an outstanding coastline. Jagged rocky headlands with stunning colours, sandy beaches and a range of gradually increasingly high hills covered in trees with  all shades of green colours. We passed Arbatax which is renown for its red rocks (we think they are granite) and then turned into the marina where we were met by a rib and guided to our place.

We really like this marina - there is a lovely bar/trattoria/gelateria inside the marina and then a short (up hill)walk away are several other places to eat. The beaches are very close by and the setting is tranquil and very picturesque. The staff were very friendly and helpful proving us with information about shops buses and events going on locally. We went to the hill town of Baunei on Sunday as they were holding a celebration of their heritage with local traditional costume parades, open houses, local produce tasting etc. The views from the winding road that took us up to the village were magnificent and the various samples of local food and wine were delicious. We were fortunate enough to be driven by a very friendly German guy who keeps his boat in this marina for the summer and has a car here too. On our return we went to the beach for a cooling off swim. An early night is called for as we will head north another 50 miles tomorrow.

The marina facilities are very good - spacious showers and toilets the best we have seen in Italy so far. A self service laundry wash 4 E (uses coins) and dry 2 E.
