Gouvia Marina 20th June

We had one night at anchor in ‘Jumping Fish Bay’ before heading for our summer berth in Gouvia Marina. We were allocated a berth on N pontoon – quite a long walk to the nearest toilets and showers so the bikes were brought out of their bags pretty quickly. The marina toilets were being refurbished and during our stay were closed periodically while the tiling was finished off. We enjoyed exploring the small town near to the marina and found the off-site laundry where we could get a big bag of washing done (wash and dry) for 10E. (It can be found out of the marina drive way take the short alley way almost directly opposite and turn left along the slip road – it is on the left before the hotel entrance. There is also a chemist on this parade of shops. The large AB supermarket is across the main road (turn right out of the marina driveway) the chandlery on the right here is also very good and we were able to order stuff to be delivered there for collection.

The swimming pool at the marina is lovely though it gets busy in the afternoon with local students and families. A swim first thing in the morning is delightful! The bar beside the pool does great club sandwiches enough to share between 2 for lunch. (4E) WE tried several of the local restaurants Zorba’s just outside the marina drive served good food at amazing prices, the hotel has equally good food and if you like Elvis then the tribute evening on Thursdays is a good laugh. The local bus goes into Corfu town very regularly where there are numerous shops for browsing and the main square is especially good to visit in the early evening – sitting out at one of the bars looking onto the ‘cricket pitch’.

Rob decided after a couple of days that he would go home to try and get his arm diagnosed properly and sorted out. I stayed and prepared the boat for the arrival of our friends Bert and Gerry.
