15th August

Well we have done some exploring and found many interesting facts about the history of Gibraltar. Yesterday we visited the museum which was really good with a very comprehensive overview of the history of the rock dating from Neolithic times. The actual building has been erected over a previous Roman/ Moorish site and the ‘baths’ area was fascinating to see.  Morrison’s provided us with all the stores required to replenish our supplies of ‘English’ food-stuff (Rob does like his salad cream and baked beans!) We also walked to the southern end of Main street and found the Trafalgar Cemetery. We did the Rock Tour today which took us to some of the most famous tourist sites on the rock -  St. Michael’s cave Grotto, the Ape sanctuary, and the WW2 tunnels. (See photographs on the blog.) The views from the top of the rock are just amazing you can see 2 continents and 3 countries!

In between all of this I have been able to keep abreast of the Team GB’s Olympic performances either by logging onto BBC  or visiting a local cafe where they have the BBC live coverage on most of the day! Pity about the badminton mixed doubles pair – they should have beaten the Koreans! I am really looking forward to Saturday’s events with the start of the athletics.

More later.
