Anchorage off Angistri

We set off from Methana quite early and headed North West looking for a suitable cooler spot to anchor swim and have lunch. We have a few places in mind but the favourite and where we ended up staying overnight was a small bay on the SW tip of Angistri protected by a tiny island called Dhoroussa. We actually managed a sail for the first time and had the full fore-sail out and pulling us along at 3.8 knots! We saw several small pods of dolphins chasing fish - sadly not interested in playing on our small bow wave! On entering the designated bay we found a power boat and two yachts already anchored and tied back to the rocks plus two other yachts free swinging to anchor. Undaunted we trawled around looking for a space to anchor that wasn’t too deep and duly found one. Here we settled, swam, had lunch, a siesta and another swim. The water was beautifully clear and we saw loads of fish – small gar which varied from 8 inches to 24 inches, they were chasing much smaller fish and caused quite a disturbance on the surface of the water at intervals times during the afternoon. The two free anchored boats left and we decided to anchor closer in to the rocks and stay the night. It was delightful our only concern was at 0130 another boat arrived and anchored quite near to us but all was OK and we really enjoyed the tranquillity of this place. The next morning we set off for Epidhavros so we could visit the ancient Greek Theatre and archaeological site before leaving the Aegean.
