Carrickfergus
054:42.612 N Carrickfergus, Belfast Lough, Northern Ireland Forgot to mention on our trip north yesterday I said to Bol how amazing that we could see the Isle of Man from Ireland …. he double checked the chart and told me it was Scotland. The Mull of Galloway was visible through the haze, that feels like progress! Such a relief to get dressed in shorts and t-shirt, not full thermals, and join the rest of the country enjoying this heat. As Windy.com promised very little wind today we relaxed here. Bol never minds no wind and hot sunshine as he sets to work on the varnish; where the ropes chafe the capping rail it offends him each time he climbs on TC, no more, she’s looking fabulous! Took a pleasant walk up the promenade this evening and learnt a few things about Carrickfergus and what put it on the map 900 years ago. Such an interesting history through the centuries that is annotated and memorialised in various plaques. Of particular serenity is a spectacular, relatively recently built War Memorial, overlooking the Lough entrance, dedicated to so many, and marking anniversaries of many battles. Finally, a supper in the cockpit. |
