St Vaast

We had a very relaxed morning in Cherbourg as we didn't need to leave until after lunch. Bol went ashore with Harry and Isabelle to track down two more Airfix models having sourced a model shop online; they returned with a Focke-Wulf 190 and a Messerschmitt 109 deciding it was time to learn about "the enemy" !

We slipped our lines at 1pm knowing we knew we would be slogging an ebb tide to begin with but we thought we'd leave nice and early so we could sail and not worry about the time. As it was, the weather was perfect and we had a beautiful downwind sail, which together sunshine and excellent visibility we could watch the north coast of France slip by about 2 miles away.

Barfleur Lighthouse on the corner came and went and St Vaast soon arrived as we soon had the flood tide with us, we rather like sailing at 9 knots! The lock gates opened as we arrived with high water and we are now parked inside the pretty fishing harbour. We are pleased to be back here having been here 4 years ago, the children vaguely remember it but we'll have the day ashore tomorrow to refresh their memories.
