It is still pretty wild and windy here in Victoria Marina, St Peter Port, Guernsey, so we have paid for a few more days; anchorages around these Islands are exposed and uncomfortable and this marina is very protected ~ life is currently very cushy!

The morning was therefore spent finishing the Vampire Airfix model and after a trip ashore to explore town, we stumbled upon a delightfully old-fashioned model toy shop with floor-to-ceiling model boxes; both children came away armed with tomorrow's activity, WWII planes! Quite a lot of WWII learning going on here in Guernsey and there are many Memorials here in St Peter Port to Liberation Day on 9th May 1945. Sadly we just missed the 70th anniversary as it would have been a very special experience.

However, after sunshine and showers all morning, and a hail storm after lunch, we made it to the bus stop for a round the island bus ride. It wasn't guided or touristy, just interesting as it followed the outer circular road that took in all the coastline. An amenable driver let us climb out and take photos of scenic spots ~ sadly it wasn't warm beach weather to stay and explore. Very interesting to see the whole island and we noticed that any scenic spot with a sea view would also have an eerie grey German concrete installation facing seawards.

All getting swept up with 'We didn't mean to go to Sea', the next Swallows & Amazons read :-)
