Another cracking day. After a morning of whittling olive branches into various shapes, we headed back up the Vascão late morning with the flood tide and wind behind us. As the water was high enough to pass the beautifully preserved Roman wier, we continued paddling until we found a suitable landing spot and had our first swim of 2015. Fabulously chilly but all four went in ~ Isabelle was definitely the bravest and stayed in ages.

After warming in the hot sunshine, it was time to float back on the ebb.We had our picnic on the  wier and tried to picture the scene 2,000 years ago when the Romans occupied the area ~ another day of 'alternative schooling'.

Many more sightings of terrapins today and Bol took some lovely photos. The younger ones dropped into the water when they saw us but the older ones didn't seem bothered and we could get quite close in before Harry (rather thoughtfully) suggested we leave them enjoying the sunshine.

Some good star gazing this evening with the children in sleeping bags in the cockpit. No light pollution here so horizon to horizon stars. The silence can be a bit deafening and once the birds and cicadas have gone to bed, the silence is only broken by fish jumping and the occasional night bird screeching. Wonderful!
