We were happy with our uneventful Lyme Bay crossing managing to sail all the way, and are enjoying our time in Dartmouth. We’ve decided to wait out this easterly blow further up the River Dart at anchor. We could have nipped around the corner to Salcombe but our bible (Tom Cunliffe’s Pilot Book) advises not to enter on a SE or a low / ebbing tide, as we were potentially going to do both, we thought it best to stay where we are.

There is so much activity on the River, and the harbour people couldn’t be more friendly, so there will be plenty to do and see during this time ~ plus the local pasties make a fabulous lunch!

We’ve checked out the steam train and the three of us are going to take it from Kingswear to Paignton on Wednesday and put Harry on the train back to Warwick (sad faces). We’d obviously hoped to get a little further with him, but with the Met Office pledging 34 knots we just need to bide our time to get around the corner and start heading north in sensible and enjoyable conditions, it is still quite early in the season. We’ll get caught in 30+ knots, we don’t wish to head out into 30+ knots.

Hoping we’ll have wifi tomorrow up river, but if not, that is where we are.
