Ria de Camarinas

Ooops we ran out of water this evening, it was quite a good thing as the children both looked quite shocked when we told them. However, much excitement as an expedition in the dinghy was needed to go to town (quite a long way with the 2hp outboard) and refill 2 x 20litre water containers. We haven't used the salt water to wash up this time as we weren't too sure how clean the Ria is, so our water tank lasted 6 days ~ not good! We are pleased we have a water maker, and will need to get it working soon and iron out any teething problems before heading off shore. We haven't used it yet as we haven't needed to.

Four years ago yesterday (4th Sept 2010) 43 of us swam from Hurst Castle on the UK mainland to the Isle of Wight, the purpose of that swim was initiated because I needed to have confidence to do what I did this evening, swim back from the beach to the boat. It only took about ten minutes, but without having learnt to swim properly for long distance four years ago, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly so much. Thank you again 'Swim Emma' I thought of you tonight, and all my swim buddies who joined in with the memorable cross-Solent swim!

From the photo below you will see absolutely no wind at all this morning, this flat calm was taken at 8am, it was utterly beautiful. Later on a sea breeze blew for a few hours, and it is this we are hoping to catch tomorrow as we are going to head on south, past Cape Finisterre, aiming for Ria de Muros, 40 miles away. The wind is forecast for southerly so we will be heading into it, but the sea state is flat so hopefully with the sea breeze we should manage to sail most of the way.

Interesting 'school' this morning, when we do maths we do 1-2-1 and it is working quite well, I sit with Isabelle and Bol sits with Harry and we go through their relevant levels We ended the morning with Bol reading through some chapters on the life of Francis Drake, it is rather fun and appropriate as much of the story is based on battles against the Spanish, including a raid into La Coruna.

Probably no 'school' tomorrow as we will be under way, although Harry is beginning to take an interest in the navigation.
