We hadn't noticed until yesterday but the dodgy connection on the VHF/AIS aerial had parted company on the Channel crossing, so Bol spent an hour at the top of the mast today putting a new one in. Brilliantly he had noticed the dodgy connection and brought a spare one with him. Harry and Isabelle were rewarded a brownie point and an ice cream each for being very good during the whole operation. Harry found our Usbornbe Book of Experiments so we then had our first on-board science experiment of mixing vinegar with baking soda and watching the result from afar. There are currently some crystals growing on a paperclip in a jar in the galley sink, they take a few days so i hope it works!

They had their ice creams during a walk into the town, I popped into a 'tabac' to ask where the town centre was, and the proprietor looked at me oddly and motioned 'ici', here! So we bought some things for another BBQ tomorrow and sat in his garden eating the ices. It is a tiny village, one church, one town hall, one school and one shop.

Isabelle was ecstatic for the rest of the day as she spotted her first gecko, actually better than that, she managed to catch it and hold it in her hand. We persuaded her to return it to its wall before she terminated it in excitement.

As we were remaining at anchor we all had our first snorkel, salty, chilly, but fun to see the clams, seaweeds and fish. Hopefully it will only get warmer and more interesting as time goes by.

I looked in my log book and saw I was here in August 1993 with Jake Backus on Acquest, rather shocked to realise it was 21 years ago!

Next few days here too.
All good on board.
