Loch Spelve, Mull
056:22.031 N Loch Spelve, Mull Just after posting last night’s blog, the rain stopped and the evening sun came out; the light was so incredible it had to be captured on camera. A row ashore was followed by the most stunning light display, reckon the first photo below is ‘photo of the trip’ so far! ~ Today was a boisterous sail across the Firth of Lorn and into through the entrance to Loch Spelve. Eyes glued on the charts as we navigated our way past two mussel farms which are really low down in the water and difficult to see until you are quite close, fortunately both were well marked with yellow cones at their corners. We headed to the south west part of the Loch and are the only yacht at anchor, surrounded by an unbelievable amount of wildlife. As ever, we anchor and then have a cup of tea sitting in the cockpit to ensure the anchor is set, it was howling at this stage so we wanted to be doubly sure we were secure. Pretty special to spend an hour with binoculars; Canada and Greylag geese with (20?) goslings walking along the beach was a particularly endearing sight, Kittiwakes and Oystercatchers are among the most vocal and many others were identified on the Merlin app. A walk ashore on the most beautiful winding track; it was single width and lined with pink/purple rhododendrons on either side, sometimes 20ft high, and going way up the hillside on our right. Dotted along the route were families of sheep with lambs, and on our left was the really beautiful fresh water Loch Uisg. It ended at Lochbuie and in the distance we could see Moy Castle amongst the trees. Our Isabelle is flying up from the Island on Tuesday and joining us in Oban, now only 5 miles away, so it is a wonderful excuse to slow right down and see so many beautiful anchorages. |
