Dittisham and Kingswear
050:21.23 N 003:34.24 W We anchored just south of the ‘Anchor Stone’ near Dittisham overnight just before a stunning sunset, what an idyllic setting. TC’s engine overheated when leaving Weymouth on Saturday so Bol rolled his sleeves up and did some work on it. Then with a whole lot of new anchoring kit being used for the first time, it wasn’t a particularly relaxing night for him with 25-30 knots frequently blowing across the deck. However, TC swung about quite a bit but the anchor held beautifully and we remained firmly attached to the mud. We had a lovely walk ashore in Dittisham this morning, spotting Agatha Christie’s home through the woods on the opposite side of the river. We then followed a path of bluebells and wild garlic to the top and could see the steam train chuffing on up through the county, its toot being sounded frequently to great effect. In order to try out Bol’s handywork on the engine, we motored back to Dartmouth but are still slightly anxious about it over heating, so Bol will tackle it again tomorrow. The handsome fellow on the pontoon was unperturbed by our arrival. We then had a beautiful walk on the Kingswear side, walking to the top of the steep hill until views out over the channel came into sight. With plenty of white horses and gusts visible we felt most grateful to be tied up to a pontoon on the calm river. Fun to watch the steam train arrive, it certainly attracts a lot of attention. Our last night with Harry, what a treat to have had him on board up until now. |
