Queensway Quay Marina, Gibraltar,

Thank you for lots of lovely birthday messages, what a treat to receive them this morning, Harry was absolutely delighted.

Sadly our plan for the picnic on the Rock was cancelled for two reasons, we'd begun to think twice about carrying food in the vicinity of the Apes after speaking to locals/hearing stories/reading advice about how bold they are and can steal thing from out of your hands; and secondly the rain which started in the night was still pouring down at midday and the top of the Rock was in thick mist.

So we had the picnic on board, and after lunch the rain gave a brief lull to enable us to stroll to the Botanic Gardens; they are very special, full of interesting flora, fauna, statues, memorabilia, pathways, so we'd like to return when it is sunny. The highlight for the children, once we realised the Apes, terrapins, frogs, whoopoes, chiffchaff birds, lizards (and many other things) were in hiding, was a very fancy playground and as we were the only people in the gardens they had the run of the place.

We returned for a tea party on board followed by salmon and raspberries for supper (as chosen by Harry), so ended a very lovely relaxed birthday. The weather hasn't really dampened spirits and it still leaves a treat in store, hopefully we'll get up to the top of the Rock and see these naughty Apes, we must just remember not to take any food with us!
