A truly beautiful day spent here at anchor, to be recalled in the future as memorable and very special. We took lunch ashore, re-lit the fire and cooked spuds and baked apples on the coals. Sitting in the hot sunshine all enjoying the peace, space and tranquillity of the moment, one other boat at anchor and the rest of the world a million miles away. More 'cuckold' sounds which we traced to a covey of Partridge, and also a stunning kingfisher was spotted flying up and down the bank, its green and orange as bright flashes in the reeds. Then at dusk the river bank came alive with twittering and chirping, as the sun went down and the air cooled beautiful bird song filled the valley. Throughout the day we could see sheep on the other side of the river and hear their bells, a really enchanting sound which along with eucalyptus trees everywhere make us realise we are far from home! It is cosy on board TC in the evenings with the eberspacher heater going and the gas oven cooking and heating the saloon. But with the dark evenings and not really wanting to use the electric lights, we are all in bed fairly early these days and using all the bedding available! |
