We visited the Gibraltar Museum today which gave an excellent
illustrative history of Gibraltar since dinosaurs roamed the planet. The
oldest Neanderthal skull was discovered here and dated back 60,000
years. It seems that for the last 2,000 years everyone has wanted their
share of The Rock ~ I think we counted 14 sieges in the last 1,000
years! Romans never lived here but lead anchors from ships were found in
the bay proving that they used to shelter here. Also remains of Moorish
Baths showed how life was lived 600 years ago. All very interesting and
a good thing to do before visiting the tunnels and caves.
Bol spent the afternoon with the children making their air fix models
and then we went for a run around in the "Commonwealth Park" ~ a newly
built 2.5acre public space beautifully created for the enjoyment of
everyone right in the heart of Gibraltar with The Rock as a fabulous
backdrop.
