At anchor off the Ilha da Culatra, Faro

The tide in the marina at Vila Real de San Antonio is pretty harsh so we were keen to be underway when it was slack. Fortunately high water coincided with first light this morning ~ it is always nice to see where you are going when half asleep!

Then, oh joy, six hours of tide with us all the way to Faro and so the 30 miles were made in quick time. It was very nice to see Abel Tasman again and we had a quick catch up with them in between their coats of paint ~ their first charter is next week so they are busy getting ready for guests.

Ashore to the longest beach amid dramatic onshore wind and waves for Harry and Isabelle to let off steam and do lots of digging and running around in the sand dunes!

It was quite shocking to see signs up announcing that some of the ad hoc villages along the beach are to be demolished by the council as they have grown organically, illegally and without planning. Bull dozers are working their way along the coast 'tidying up' the shoreline.

It is so beautiful here with clear water and plenty of open space. We hope to be here for the weekend and get underway on Monday ~ southerly gales are due on Tuesday which will make it very exposed here.
