Anchored in Bayona

Harry and I were up and out fishing in the dark again this morning, bobbing about alongside the locals but sadly returning empty handed again, unsurprisingly he was starting to get quite frustrated (but do read on!).

Ashore late morning for Ferretaria (hardware store) and Supermarket Admin ~ we are delighted that Camping Gaz seems to be getting cheaper the further south we go, they were  50 Euros in France and are 16 Euros in Spain!   We cook using Camping Gaz and a large cannister lasts approx 3 weeks, we are carrying 3 large plus 1 medium.

My Spanish dictionary is proving very useful but unless I take my specs with me it is useless. Today I bought something quite interesting for supper, but when I got back to TC and used my specs to read the small print I found it was "Vaccinated Tripe"  ~ I think I will donate it to Harry's shrimping trap!

We also acquired a few goodies for Isabelle's 8th birthday on October 14th; a fishing rod and a pen knife to start with!  What is lovely is that she has really started reading avidly so we would like to get her a Kindle if we can as she has nicked Bol's to read "Swallows and Amazons" on! She has been promised for years that her 8th birthday will be in Portugal, we might however be at sea en route to Madeira, time will tell.

This evening we had a cracking walk around the castle "Fortaleza de Monterreal" at the entrance to the bay which has been a fortification for over 2,000 years. Castle one side and Atlantic on the other which with the evening light was all really beautiful.  We treated ourselves to happy hour and ice creams at the very luxurious Parador Hotel and sat on their terrace overlooking Bayona Bay. In turn we all went through our hightlights and it appears that everyone has lots of Spanish highlights which is wonderful.

Upon returning to TC we spotted an old chap fishing on the sea wall, he showed off his bucket of 'Mira' ?? whatever that is, Harry was desperate to join him and try out his new reel which was bought today with his brownie points. So whilst supper was being made the children rowed over to have a go. Isabelle returned in virtual darkness (well after their curfew of 8.30pm) to say they "needed" the handline. What could we say? Bol very patiently returned with her and the handline, all three returning eventually at 10pm, pitch dark, supper was cold but they had FIVE fish. Hooray!
