After obtaining our cruising permit, we spent a further 9 hours wandering around San Diego with Steve and Vicki. As we had not been in this environment for many, many months, it was quite a shock on our senses, as there was ‘so much’ of everything and a little difficult to take in.

We only stayed 2 nights on the Police Transient dock, as we had decided to press on up to Los Angeles with a stop at Newport on the way. So another 0530 start and it was a little bumpy getting out of the harbour and for the first 20 nm. We settled into some a nice groove and made for the breakwaters at Newport. We covered the 72nm in less than 12 hours and Mike, a friend we met in Mexico, went on board Tango to guide us to our anchorage in Newport Harbour.
