Although a magnet for nightclubbers
and holiday makers, Ibiza has much to offer the
‘yachties’ and we were very impressed with the beautiful and so far the many
unspoilt and secluded ‘calas’ (coves).
We have anchored in a few, namely Cala Salada, Cala Basa and Cala de Port
Roig (aka ‘Secret
Bay’).
We had
quite an eventful night in Cala Basa, as after our evening meal, we found the
bilges on Nimue full of sea water.
We didn’t initially know where the water was coming from, until Michael
realised that he hadn’t turned the exhaust drain off on the generator, which
meant that it was pumping water into Nimue, instead of out to sea! Anyway, with the assistance of Alan on
Sula Mac, we managed to get rid of most of the water that night and spent the
whole of the next day mopping up!
At least Nimue now has clean bilges and Michael has now put a note by the
side of the generator to ensure this doesn’t happen again! Ann also on Sula Mac, played a valuable
part too, by ensuring we were fed and watered all day…. thanks again to them
both.

We had
been recommended to go to a ‘fab’ restaurant in Cala de Port Roig and although
both on limited budgets Sula Mac and ourselves decided it was time for a
treat. After taking a wrong
turning, we eventually found the restaurant round in the next bay, in
Yondal. We had a table on the
veranda overlooking the bay and all of us enjoyed the baked sea bream. Michael followed his with one of his best
ever crème brulees …… and he is a connoisseur, so it must
have been good! All in all a very
memorable evening.

The
weather was looking rather unsettled as we headed off to the small privately
owned island of Espalmador (just south of Ibiza), but nevertheless we decided to
have a look and not long after we had picked up a mooring buoy in one of the
most tranquil and sheltered spots on the island, the sun made an appearance and
brightened everything up. In fact
by the evening it was glorious, so we all went ashore to have a ‘Cobb’ (type of
BBQ cookware) party on the beach.
