Happy New Year!

Radio silence on New Year's Day sadly due to Harry waking with his worst migraine of the trip. A saga lasting 20hrs from 8am 1/1/15 until 4am 2/1/15. Poor chap. Much better today thankfully ~ and straight back into his fishing gear this morning.

New Year's Eve was memorable as expected. We visited the big marquee on the Portuguese side but the band's volume was physically painful on the ear drums so we bid a hasty retreat over to the Spanish side and joined in their final half hour.

Great to see their tradition of welcoming in the new year of having 12 grapes on a kebab stick and when the clock tower chimes midnight they eat one grape on each chime. Apparently very difficult! We thought we'd give it a go at midday one day.

With plenty of drunken Spaniards letting off flares all around us, we returned to TC for the final hour of Portuguese/UK 2014 and had a lovely hour sitting under our sleeping bags chatting in the saloon. There are some pretty magic moments on this trip and the final hour of 2014 was one of them.

Bol then found a Portuguese radio station which counted down to midnight and exactly on cue a beautiful 5 minute firework display from the Alcoutim quayside was visible from the cockpit, and 2015 had arrived.

We were so pleased to be able have our Christmas Eve hosts to supper on New Year's Day, Christian and Polly, Mia and Lily. Isabelle was there all day yesterday, and again today, playing in their exciting, interesting, sunny garden.

We hope you all have a very Happy New Year.
