Hi all,
First, Happy Father's Day Dad, I will try to ring later. (People on the next boat tell me it was actually last Sunday - I was sure it was the second Sunday in September and with no advertising to remind us, I can't be sure!!!!)
This morning we went over o Panapompom to attend their local Sunday Service, having become quite friendly with the local pastor, Miller, and his family. One thing is sure, the kids are unlilkely to complain about Mass being too long ever again......The singing in harmony was absolutely beautiful, but the bible passage and sermon, in both English and Pidgin, went on rather a long time. The speaking in tongues (at least it sounded different to Pidgin), and the casting out of demons were both a revelation though. We were certainly made vey welcome, and were presented with some drinking coconuts , pawpaws and limes afterwards by Julie, Miller's wife. They were all very keen to know which one was Grace, as it is a very popular name ont the island - we have met three in this village, including Julie's mother, from whom we bought a woven handbag . Chris had been fishing with the pastor earlier in the week, but caught nothing. Miller announced to the congregation that he had felt rather let down - Maybe he thought he ought to have some assistance from on high. Not sure whether comments about "fishers of men" might have been a bit obtuse. Now back on board making cakes and ale, and have just made aquaintence with the newest arrival in the anchorage, an English family with 2 boys aged 9 and 14. "Why is it always boys" our girls ask.....
