Today was another terrific day in paradise. Chris and Allan turned their talents to manufacturing a temporary replacement of our bow roller, lost overboard when the bolt worked itself loose during our 3 day passage. With the sacrifice of one of my breadboards, a bit of epoxy and a hole saw (and the generator) they laminated together a fair imitation of the item.
Tomorrow will be the test whether it works.
Schoolwork and breadmaking took up the rest of the morning, and the girls and I have just spent the afternoon snorkelling, whiule Chris chatted to the locals and Al went for a walk around the island.
The water is a fantastic aquamarine colour, and  we saw dozens of tiny electric blue fish. We had an awesome experience swimming in the middle of a shoal of tens of thousands of small fish, each about 10 cm long. The whole shoal would change direction as one, flashing silver in the sunlight. (A bit like the scene in Finding Nemo). The highlight of afternoon, though, was exploring a sunken Japanese  WW2 one man fighter aeroplane called a Zero, which was in pretty good condition, complete with propellor, seat, joystick and wings. It was teeming with fish. We are now waiting for one of the villagers to come over in his dugout outrigger canoe with some coconuts, which he will trade  for some fish hooks.
And as the sun sinks slowly in the west... the beers are cold, that's all for now.   Cate.
