Oban to Dublin on eXehibitionist day 1: Oban was unusually glorious in the sunshine when we arrived Wednesday. I flew up to Glasgow from Heathrow then took 2 buses to Oban. Met a nice chap whilst waiting for the bus who used to be in the Navy patrolling fishing in the North Sea 30 years ago let’s just say for a bucket of prawns a blind eye was turned to overcatch, but if they wanted a run ashore they arrested the skipper. Arrived in Oban 15mins after our little Ferry to Kerrera Marina so had to sit with a glass of wine until the next one. Rest of the evening was spent bending on the jib, unmousing halyards and meeting my 2 crew.
Thursday we set off for Islay down the Sound of Luing, past ( not through) the Coreyaveckan whirlpool and onto the sound of Jura. Mostly on engine as not enough wind to sail and what there was was on the nose.
Exehibitionist just threw up one problem in that there was leakage around the new raw water pump piping, when we restarted the engine after a short sail we had no water until I nipped up the jubilee clips to reseal the water inlet. As the sun set we entered the harbour at Islay with its multitude of whisky distillers. Despite my bag being at max capacity for the plane somehow pinky and perky penguin found a way in and are happy lounging in the conservatory (spray hood) …what is one of those they are asking and why don’t we have on Purple Mist ?
