The Soggy Dollar Bar

Today we are on Jost Van Dyke home of the Soggy Dollar Bar and the painkiller cocktail. There is a shallow anchorage and historically folks would swim ashore with wet notes to buy their drink. We moored in the main harbour and got a very rustic taxi across the hill to enjoy the beach for the day. The waves were pretty big and there was some good fun to be had watching boats moor and people swimming ashore. Yes of course we had to round off the day with a painkiller !

Yesterday we moored by Little Jost Van Dyke and hiked to the ‘Bubbly Pool’. This is a natural jacuzzi where the waves crash though a gap in the rocks. The trail had some interesting signage.

As the swell was big the pool was really bubbling and it was good fun to be tossed about.

We had come from Saba Rock up in Virgin Gourda , the only boat flying a spinnaker. we had done some great snorkelling early in the day then enjoyed the newly rebuilt Bitter Ebd Yacht club. As with most of the BVI Hurricane Irma hit them really hard and the Bitter End Yacht club was completely flattened.

The best snorkelling so far has been south of Great Dog. The corals were really huge and lots of different shapes including fans and tubes. The fish were super, every colour and size from big to small.

So far the wind has been pretty light but tomorrow evening it starts to pick up back to 20kt trade winds so we will need to be more careful choosing our overnight spots.
