Day 18:You shall have a fishy…

Weather wise Day 18 was similar to yesterday in that we have the strong 20kt trades finally pushing us at decent pace towards Grenada. The end is in sight … well not quite in sight but the miles to go to our final destination are ticking down.

Today we had it final present from Jeremy which was some more motivational stickers. The boat and log book are starting to look like a teenagers bedroom as we liberally plaster them about. We particularly liked “Allow yourself to be a beginner, no one starts off excellent” and “ it doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t stop“ I think they pretty much sum up our trip. Although not beginners to sailing and racing we are beginners to a Transat and looking back to those first 48hrs where we basically trashed 3 sails and lost the boom we know a lot more now on how to prevent those events than we did then. At least all three sails are fixed and working again.

The excitement of last night was we finally caught a flying fish. 3am there was a thud then a bunch of flapping sounds and there on deck was a decent sized flying fish . I scooped it up to show Claire when she awoke. I’m not sure she appreciated it in her cabin though did suggest we eat it for breakfast. However by 9am it had started to get a bit whiffy so we slung it back for something else to eat.

Finally, we have had a bit of “self care” today. We seem to have plenty of water still in our little tank so I treated myself to my first shower in 17days. Claire has been perfecting her yoga and now has found space in her cabin for a down dog.
