Day 20: Lounging in Lagos
Today was a short hop to Lagos. Our night at anchor was pretty calm, although hearing the waves crashing on the rocks is a bit disturbing so it wasn’t the best nights sleep I’ve ever had.
This morning I noticed the normally pink rudders were almost completely black with algae, this is not good for speed , it’s also not good for orcas as they seem to go for darker colours. Therefore before breakfast I took the opportunity of a quick dip with the big pan Scourer for a spot of scrubbing …man that water was cold, it took me a good few minutes to get my breath. Anyway the result is very pink rudders again.
Our short hop was easy and as we rounded the final headland we saw some amazing caves and grottos , this should have been our first clue that Lagos is a full on tourist resort. The marina is surrounded by bars selling UK branded beers frequented by holidaymakers . A bit of a shock to the system after our other stops.
As well as Purple mists first visit to such a holiday resort she also had her first lifting bridge experience…yes all the tourists had to wait whilst we motored into the marina. It was strange to have to look up to check the rig was ok on the bridge.
Anyway we are now fully stocked with food, water and diesel for the trip to Lanzarote.
Next update will hopefully be by satellite and my trusty “fake Kate”.
