Day 12 and we made another 60NM down the coast of Portugal to Figueira. Another 7am start and another full on day - no offwatch cheeky naps as we need to be on Orca Alert ready to deploy defences at a moments notice. This combined with mooring up in 20+kts in new harbours everyday is starting to take its toll on me. I desperately need a day off.
Also yesterday morning it’s fair to say I was a little jaded after too much Norwegian hospitality aboard our anchoring partner Olliver. I enjoyed a bit too much the food and wine in good company.
Anyway we made it to Figueira. the forecast was for 2.8m swell and 20+ kts by the end of the day so I was concerned for yet another tricky harbour as this one is a shallow entrance which makes any waves bigger. Thankfully for once the weather gods were smiling and the wind dropped and the swell never materialised, Also we managed to time it bang on high water so no breaking waves at the entrance . Still there was 3 suicidal canoeists determined to just get in the way but even they were not harmed as we found a free (pre booked!) berth in the Marina.
Immediately we got chatting to the boat next door who is from Portsmouth, Also some more Norwegians on a world tour. We were invited for drinks and beers but for once I said no. After the usual tidying up and checking in I just wanted to stop and relax. So we ate aboard I then made a nice coffee, nicked the last chocolate bar and I snuggled up my cosy cabin with a book - bliss.
After a good nights sleep with no alarm I’m now totally regenerated for a day of boat jobs and shopping before we set off again tomorrow for Peniche, then Friday we should make Lisbon just in time for Robs flight Saturday.
