Stormbound in Bequia

We are having a bit of an extended stay in Bequia a small island just south of St Vincent. The wind has got up to 20-30kts and whilst we could sail we don’t need to rush so we thought we could enjoy the island.  We have got quite cozy on our marina berth adding the anchor line to the mooring lines to stop the surging back and forwards.  We are the only boat on the dock and at night we have our own security guard.  We have been chatting to Marty, an American who has just bought this marina and is turning slowly it into a boatyard.

Yesterday we trekked across to Princess Margaret beach which is a wide expanse of pale sand sloping into  a wonderful turquoise sea.  Not a bad place to be stormbound.

Last night the restaurant next to the marina turned out to be the hot spot to go to . We had a delicious meal of Conch Ting which had an amazing write up on the menu …apparently a proven Aphrodisiac!!! …then the band started and the place turned into a dance floor with the tunes blasting away.

Today visited the local artisans who build model boats. They can build you a model of your own vessel .

After chatting to the guy in the shop he introduced us to a friend to take us on an island tour in a taxi. We went up the nearest hill and had a great view of the harbour and Purple Mist tucked up on her berth- middle of this picture by the red roofed building.

We went over the other side of the island and looking at the size of the waves it confirmed we had made the right decision to stay in harbour and they were big waves crashing in over the reef. Time for another rum punch.
