Day 18: More Sun More Sea

The wind is pretty consistent now and that has translated to consistent mileage. We have done 165 miles per day the past 3 days which translates to 145miles per day closer to Grenada as we can’t quite point at the destination. ETA is around Midnight Saturday GMT. We’ve had the A5 flying today for its first outing.

We’ve both been reflecting that we shouldn’t wish away these last few days. It’s easy to focus on the finish and wish it would come sooner but that somewhat misses the point that the enjoyment is the journey. A friend messaged this morning echoing a comment on Facebook that these Transat’s don’t come around very often and to make the most of these last few days at sea.

Last night I had the 2am-4am slot which is particularly tough to stay awake for even after 17 days of waking up at night. As the boat just needs the occasional mainsail trim it’s all too easy to sit inside looking at screens. As you can do that at home I instead spent 2 hrs star gazing, The night sky really is amazing at sea and never ceases to fascinate me. Star gazing is really enhanced by my phone app allowing me to positively identify Mars, Taurus , Auriga and Perseus .

The food and water supplies are holding up very well. Almost too well really indicating we were a bit over catered. Only now have we run out of a couple of things. We enjoyed the last Chicken Fajitas tonight which has been our favourite meal ( 1 can of Tesco chicken in white sauce , drain most of the sauce , fry an onion add chicken and Fajitas spice mix and stuff in a wrap). We still have a few slices of Graces delicious date cake for afternoon tea , my sister in law, Julia’s fruit cake soaked with brandy has all gone. Amazingly with no fridge for 17days we are still enjoying some very nice cheese we were given on departure by the marina. Mocktail hour is somewhat limited to tomato, apple or orange

Finally a picture of Snoopy supervising Claire in the off watch bunk.
