The 5 day stay in Le Marin was productive.  Lots of laundry done, camping gaz cylinders, outboard fuel and engine diesel re-filled and we topped up with some fresh French provisions.  The boat had a good wash down, the first in months, and we managed to get hold of one or two things from the excellent chandleries which had been difficult to find to carry out some overdue repairs.  This all seems very basic but so often these things are difficult to find when at anchor off small islands.  Simple pleasures.  We also enjoyed some moules frites and visited a favourite restaurant.

We left Le Marin on Monday and are happy to say that the 3 days of passages to St Pierre, Martinique, Portsmouth, Dominica and Les Saintes were all very nice.  It was clear that at this time of year when there is a little south in the wind that sailing north is so much more pleasant than south.

Another dark photograph I’m afraid.  Leaving the settlement of Portsmouth in Dominica on the way back north:-

The other thing that is noticeable now the hurricane season is officially with us is how few boats are sailing north.  We saw perhaps one each day, whereas there were at least 15 yachts sailing south across the three days.  We are definitely going against the flow on this one.
