We decided we would leave Carriacou tomorrow and make some headway north
whilst the winds are good so we took a trip ashore to explore Tyrrel Bay.
We have been here once before, about 12 years ago on a charter boat
holiday. There is more development now but not too much. We had
breakfast at The Gallery Cafe which only opened about 11 weeks ago and it was a
very pleasant start to the day.
We then pottered around the bay in the dinghy, stopping at various dinghy
docks to walk ashore. Then on to ‘The Slipway’ for lunch with Beyzano and
their friends on ‘Flying Low’, Claire and Adrian which was followed by a game of
Mexican Train with a number of other cruisers in the bay.
I cleared out of Grenada and Carriacou with Customs and Immigration ready
for our departure tomorrow and in the evening we went to dinner at ‘The Lazy
Turtle’. No cooking or washing up on board today!

Having weighed anchor about 10am we set off under full sail to the north
towards Union Island Island. It was pretty windy and borderline reefing
conditions but we nevertheless had a good sail for two hours. We furled
sails and put the engine on to motor into the anchorage at Clifton. We
noticed an unusual noise from the engine but it was still running
smoothly. This requires some investigation!
The anchorage is just behind a reef so the water is protected and stays
calm whilst the wind blows your wig off. I went in by dinghy during the
afternoon to clear in to ‘St Vincent and the Grenadines’.
It’s a dramatic and attractive place despite a recent machete attack on a
cruiser (the perps are in jail, the weapon having been wielded by a 15yr old
boy). |
