The sailing up the familiar west coast of Barbados was good and we couldn't quite believe we were looking at the island from our own boat.

As we approached Port St Charles we could see some people on the shore waving at us.  It was Nigel and Asa-Britt who had been reading the Web Diary.  We knew them when we and they were living and working here and they are back on the island for a few weeks.  What a surpirise!

The bubble was burst somewhat when we tied up to the fuel pontoon (all the reception berths were blocked off with cross lines all over the place).  The swell was incredible and the boat was launched at the pontoon by a powerful surge.  (Now we know why there were so many cross lines in the reception berths with only one boat for each two berths!).  It was a boat breaker so we abandoned the berth (and Nigel and Asa-Britt) promptly before too much damage was done.

So we have anchored off the marina for now and haven't yet checked in with the authorities.  We will try to do so tomorrow.

For now, we have had a small bottle of bubbly to celebrate our arrival and will be having wine with dinner (we run a dry ship when on passage).  I had noticed that wine and G&T had magically made their way back in to the fridge where they belong over the last 24 hrs.
