A new marina has opened near Ragusa along the south coast of Sicily.  A number of boats that have wintered in Marmaris in Turkey for a number of years were planning to come here for this winter so we were curious to see what it was like.

We left Syracuse at 8am and motored all the way to Ragusa - no wind again.  We topped up with diesel ( @ €1.589 per litre which is a record high so far) and moved to our berth.  The marina was virtually empty, with perhaps only 30 boats in there out of a total of over 700 berths, no doubt because it was new.  They had been advertising offers for long winter contracts, again because they were new, so I set off on the long trek to the office to find out whether the summer price would be so good that we could stay more than one night.  Well, at €94 per night ('water free') I was a little disappointed.  When I questioned the lovely young lady as to why the prices are so high she said 'because it's high season'.  To which I replied whilst swinging my arm expansively across the breadth of the near empty marina 'yes, and you are so full'.  She laughed and shrugged her shoulders and raised her eys in a 'I don't make the decisions' sort of way.  The price would be over €120 next month.

We were disappointed to find that the supermarket was quite a long walk from the marina so we didn't bother with provisioning.  The walk would be fine in winter but in the summer heat it didn't appeal.  There is very little at the marina at the moment and no engineering or chandelry shops at the time of our visit.  We understand Ragusa is a nice town and by this winter, with more facilities in place, hopefully the liveabaords will have a good time.

So we filled up with our free water and got ready to leave the next day.
