Happy 26th Birthday Andrea!

We pay a 'Coral Protection Fee' to stay on the moorings which have been put down so that we don't damage the coral with our anchors.  We are all strict about taking trash ashore, also because of damage to the coral and the fact that turtles have been known to choke on plastic bags, quite apart from it being the only reasonable thing to do in any case.

The rain was very heavy and prolonged overnight and throughout Thursday morning.  There was a tremendous amount of run-off from the gulleys on land and the sea turned brown.  It soon became clear that unfortunately St Lucians do not share the concern of the authorities - the sea was full of rubbish.  Very dirty and unpleasant.

The sky cleared about 1pm.  We decided to launch the dinghy and go over to the Hummingbird which is advertised in the Pilot Book as being welcoming to yachts.  After escaping the clutches of one of the boat boys (men actually) who wanted to direct us to another restaurant where he would look after our dinghy for a fee we were able to carry the dinghy up the beach near to the Hummingbird restaurant and put the locking cable around a palm tree!  They had a guard who watched over the dinghy whilst we were there.

Hummingbird were indeed very welcoming and it is a very nice place in a lovely setting.  They were happy for sailors to use their facilities.  The owner said 'please tell the other yachts'.  Well, it's the quiet season and there was only one other table occupied for lunch.

We did take advantage of the pool, sunbeds and shower during the afternoon.  And by the time we got back to the boat the sea was clear again.
