Sunday 9 to Wednesday
12 December
Sunday was spent flying back to Gran Canaria
and Monday and Tuesday was mostly unpacking, filing away the
paperwork, completing Tax Returns and doing laundry.
On Monday night we went for a drink with Ian and
Judith on 'Zaurak' and discussed our timings for crossing the Atlantic as 'buddy
boats'. They are going down to Puerto de Mogan tomorrow for a change of
scene and don't expect to be ready to cross until the New Year. We are
waiting to find out about our watermaker repairs so don't expect to be ready
much earlier. We have all become a little unnerved by the online logs
completed by various boats in the ARC who seem to been having a very difficult
time of it with high winds, rough seas and many gear breakages. We were
all glad we were not in the ARC this year!
Our neighbours in the marina, Robert and Cindy on
'Tenacity' have become quite friendly with Fernando from the Marina
office. They knew we had too and had learnt that Fernando was playing
guitar on Wednesday in one of the bars around the marina. They invited us
on board for dinner for Wednesday evening so that we could all go on afterwards
to see Fernando playing. We first met Robert and Cindy when they came into
Portimao marina in February having sailed across the Atlantic from the US to the
Azores and then on to Lisbon and down the Atlantic Portugese coast. We saw
them again in Albufeira and then Madeira so it was good to actually spend some
time with them. They are leaving shortly to sail to Antigua and then on up
to the US to return to work again in April next year.
Robert and Cindy:-
Fernando says they are an 'experimental' jazz
pair. We expected something like the sketches from the Fast Show many
years ago - something unintelligable - but he proved to be a really good
lead guitarist and his playing was intricate and very enjoyable. Here
he is on his friends bass guitar just 'jamming' at the end:-
