Freshwater System
After a process of elimination we decided that the
problem with the freshwater pump not priming might be the pressure release
valve on the calorifier. This protects the calorifier from water expansion
when the engine heats the fresh water. On most boats the water released by
the valve goes into the bilge area. In our case it is piped back into the
water system between the tanks and the pump. If the valve was letting in
air then it would introduce air into the system on the tank side of the
pump - which would explain the problem. We were grasping at
straws a bit but Dennis could get the parts in town easily and we
could at least eliminate this as a cause so he sourced and fitted the new
valve.
Seawater Strainer
We finally discovered that the reason we have
not received the new strainer was because the supplier in Madrid still
hasn't placed the order with Vetus in Holland (the one they were going to
place last Friday but took too long to open the account with Dennis and
Cheryl). So 5 days lost unnecessarily.
The order was placed and an 'emergency 24 hr
delivery' directly from Holland was arranged.
We telephoned Paul to confirm that we definitely
won't make it to Estepona on time. A crap day.
