We took the dinghy over to Clarkes Court Bay Marina in the evening for their ‘burger night’.  Food OK but the 2 musicians were very good.

On Thursday we took the the boat into the marina for a few nights so we could do some jobs where the greater space provided by a marina pontoon is helpful such as removing the genoa and folding into it’s bag and cleaning and packing away the dinghy.  Clarkes Court is a rather more simple marina than the norm but it’s friendly and sociable.

A small motor boat was towed in with engine problems.  It has been restored over a number of years and the restoration was used as a project involving young Grenadians.  In the Caribbean people don’t often pronounce the second consecutive consonant.

On this occasion they didn’t bother spelling them all either:-

An example of how the marina is more basic.  They needed to move a boat and don’t have the normal ‘travel lift’ where boats are suspended within the whole lift.  Instead they bring in a crane to move them.

This one was being moved a few feet but was soon swaying in the wind.  A guy was subsequently posted at the bow to hold the boat still but spent all his time on his mobile phone so his concentration was not the best.  A nice perpetual motion was soon evident and the boat swung in towards the crane legs a few times and damage was only averted at the last second.  We won’t be using this crane:-

A ‘farmer’s market’ was organised to give local producers access to the cruisers.  This is it:-

‘We’ (mainly Lin) spent days wiping down all internal surfaces on the boat with a bleach solution.  This is in an attempt to prevent mildew forming during the hot, humid summer months when the boat will be sitting on the hard with all hatches shut.  We are not allowed to run a dehumidifier here because of the fire risk on unattended boats so we all revert to using water absorbent crystals and cleaning.
