Late morning saw us lifting the anchor to set sail south for the island of St Vincent.

As expected the wind picked up once we cleared from under St Lucia but we discovered that instead of the forecast east or north east breeze the wind was from the south east.  This put the wind on the nose with a sea direction to go with it which was going to make the 36 nm journey into something of a slog.  We decided to abort and return to St Lucia and wait for the wind to return to the more normal direction.

We picked up a mooring in the area between the Pitons.  The outlook was dramatic and so much prettier than Soufriere.

When we cleared out of Customs in Marigot Bay we indicated on the form that we would like to go to Soufriere which resulted in our being able to delay leaving St Lucia for 48 hours (normally you must leave the country within 24 hours of clearing out, but preferably you should leave NOW).  We were conscious that we had outstayed our time so decided not to go ashore which would have been an illegal entry.  So we were a little nervous about being inspected by a Customs boat, particularly as we hadn't even requested permission to go to the Pitons.  All was well on the customs front as the one maritime police boat that visited went past us without stopping.  Unfortunately we weren't so lucky with the weather as it rained almost continuously for 2 days - no doubt made worse by the fact we were sitting under high mountains!

When we last visited this bay a couple of years ago on the Windsurf the cruise ship came right into this bay.  This pleased the US guests who wanted to see this house (mansion?) said to be owned by Oprah Winfrey:-
