We got up late on my birthday and after breakfast decided to take the dinghy ashore to Isla Culatra.  It's a quirky place much given over to the fishermen.  The harbour is full of fishing nets and smells accordingly.  It's a bit of a one horse island without the horse and the main mode of transport appears to be the odd tractor although most people walk the short distances.

We were surprised to find several cafe's and bars and two 'supermarkets'.  They are not exactly your full on Tesco or Waitrose but much better than we expected to find here.

Here is the main street:-

Note the dead tractor.

And the beach by the harbour:-

Definitely a fishing port!

We had lunch ashore of grilled sardines (inevitable in Portugal) in a basic but nice restaurant then back to the boat.  Andrea and Helen each telephoned in the afternoon and it was good to catch up with what they are doing.

The wind picked up quite strongly in the late afternoon so we aborted our planned trip ashore for dinner as the wind over tide was producing a nasty chop which would have given us both saltwater baths.  Dinner on board was lovely and Lin rattled off an orange cake for my birthday whilst I was in the shower - as she does:-

There are 5 candles there (I know, I know, fire brigade etc).

A little bit puffed:-
