Well, in theory our anchoring permit ran out
yesterday but nobody has been by to chase us away yet. We will have to
wait and see.
The sea calmed down enough to enable us to take the
dinghy ashore on Saturday and we walked to the 'town'. The walk was about
40 minutes which is fine but much of the way was soft sand which was a bit
harder. We don't have internet access at the anchorage and until we can
get new Spanish sim cards we won't with the smartphone either. We found an
internet cafe in town and caught up with the essentials and went on to have
lunch at the same place. Lin found the greengrocer and the butcher and was
pleased with what they had available. The 'supermarket' wasn't too bad
either. We loaded the rucksacks and trudged back to the bay where the boat
is.
The town itself consists mainly of small, single
story apartments for the holidaymakers and there is a campsite in the
dunes. Very popular with the teenagers and hippies. There are one or
two of the more elderly brethren who look well oiled as they consume their tins
of beer at 10.30 in the morning. Some had eyes to match their red faces
and we have noticed similar people on our travels who seem
to gravitate to the simple places like this.
Just to prove where we are:-
The place is reminiscent of the island of Culatra
off the Algarve coast near Faro. If Culatra is a one horse town without
the horse, then Graciosa is a one horse town without the town:-
The 'building' to the right of the blue quad bike
is for sale:-
A nice coffee spot by the harbour. That's
Lanzarote close by just across the strait (you can see the open water at
the Graciosa harbour entrance):-
