Don't Move That Elbow
Tuesday 6 November 2012
You may remember that a few weeks ago Bob took a tumble from his
bike. Nothing seriously hurt at the
time, but a few days ago, his left elbow became hot, swollen and tender to the
touch. The guys in the Marina
Office insisted he should see a doctor, so off he went on Saturday. He returned 7 hours later with the news
that he has Bursitis which is
inflammation and infection of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that lies between the
tendon and bone. They prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pills and said to
return on Tuesday so they could have another look. Off he went again today expecting them to say, ’keep taking the pills and
all will be fine’. Imagine my shock
when he returned with his arm in plaster!
Apparently the elbow has to be immobilised to allow the infection and
swelling to clear. Keep taking the
pills and return in a week. The ARC starts in less than 3 weeks and they have a daily stream of boats
arriving in the marina. Strictly
speaking we shouldn’t be here at all. However, the Marina Manager was
extremely sympathetic to our plight and agreed that we could stay another
week. Showering Bob tonight should be interesting as the plaster cast can’t get
wet, and of course, I now have to make my own cups of
tea……..! |
