Total Distance Run 434 Miles
We reached the south eastern tip of the island of
Porto Santo just after 6pm and headed up towards the 'marina' situated within
this small island's harbour. It is very sheltered in here. The
passage distance is 455 miles but we only sailed 434 miles through the
water, so the current assisted us with 21 free miles (this averages just
0.27 knots over the 77 hours of the passage but it's a great help over
longer distances). Those 21 free miles saved 4 hours of
sailing.
This is how the island looked in the cloud and
drizzle when we were a couple of miles away :-
And about an hour later when the sky
cleared:-
It's a pretty barren island but a welcome
sight.
All tied up. Some boats have done paintings
on the wall recording their trip :-
