We left Kos harbour about 10am and motored amile or so back to Kos Marina to top up the diesel tanks then set off again and sailed north west to the island of Kalymnos.  It was a good upwind sail under one reef and we reached the harbour around 2pm.

I went ashore to find some internet and check the weather.  We had intended to sail south and west tomorrow to Astipalia.  The weather would be fine tomorrow but the some strong wind was coming on Sunday to at least Tuesday.  We know from past experience that Astipalia is not the place to be in a force 7 to 9 (ie 'near gale, through 'gale' to 'strong gale') as the island lies smack in the middle of the Meltemi zone and the harbour in the main town is small with poor provisioning.  The nearby anchorage is very exposed as well.  We decided that Kalymnos was a better option to be 'stormbound' and opted to stay put.

The next day we let out the lines and moved the boat a little farther from the quay as the swell would cause a surge and smash the boat against the concrete and the swell increases the risk of damage to the rudder hitting the shallow sea bed.
