Unfortunately the guy I needed to talk to in Italy
about the fridge was on holiday on Monday and Tuesday but on Wednesday he was
able to describe a couple of tests to do to try to isolate the fridge
problem. After feeding the results back to him he confirmed that we need
to change the 'Black Control Unit' as well as the Red one we replaced last
week. Because of the shipping issues into the Canaries we decided to find
a Spanish distributor who could deliver through their normal channels
to a dealer in Lanzarote. It took most of Wednesday to establish the
correct part information, find somebody to communicate with the supplier on the
phone in Spanish and place an order through a dealer. We had been promised 48 hour delivery to the island from
Spain plus the time from the port to the dealer being which would be rather
more uncertain so we wait to see what will happen.
On Thursday we visited the Timanfaya Volcano.
The volcano is partially active and heat still emerges from some blow holes near
the surface which they demonstrate by lowering some kindling with a fork, which
soon bursts into flames (the kindling that is) and by pouring water down spouts
which shoot up into the air in jets of steam. Food is grilled for the
restaurant from the same natural heat sources.

On Friday we went touring again and visited a
Cactus Garden and an underground cave. Both places designed by Cesar
Manrique of course.
Outside the Cactus Garden, standing in front of a
metal cactus:-
The whole place is set in a natural

We visited the underground cave after lunch.
This is part of a 7 kilometre underground volcanic fault within which there is a
small lake below sea level which is the home to blind, albino crabs. These
are apparently only found here. There is a restaurant and a cafe in the
cave together with a small amphitheatre.
On Saturday we learnt that the fridge part had
arrived and would soon be cleared through customs. I left Lin, Mon and Nev
behind at the apartment whilst I picked up the part from the dealer in Playa
Blanca. This took a little longer to fit than the previous one and I
switched everything on with trepidation. Erm... no change. Much
the same error as before. This is now testing our sense of
humor.
So after making some notes of the sequence of error
signals it was off to the local cafe to email Isotherm
again. We can't keep throwing parts at the problem so we await
Monday's conversation and email exchange with baited
breath.
