Easy overnight
sail up to Gili Trawangan where we refuel & victual before hdg N to
Singapore (Batam actually, but close enough).
Sam's first
substantial sail which he enjoyed. Previously only really harbour sailing and
mostly small cats. Nothing like being thrown in at the deep
end!
A couple of
days moored at Gili T outside my brother's Beach House Resort then time to cast
off for the thousand miles to Batam. Winds are from the W/SW which is not great
for the first part of the passage up to Billiton Island.
W/SW winds persisting and strengthening each day. The Bali Ports Authority has just cancelled all Fastboat services from Bali to Gili for the next 3 days. This is unprecedented so I guess it's quite blowy and rough around the other side of the island! (Found an even deeper end for Sam!)

Watching the
GRIBs for the last couple of days seems to confirm the Port Master's fears. A
strong band of W winds N of Java/Bali/Lombok around 100-150 miles wide which are
predicted to blow for at least 3 days. GRIB prediction is for 30+kn, so plan is
to close-reach across this band NNW towards S coast of Borneo. At least we'll be
closer to Northern Hemisphere even if we haven't made too much
westing.
