Winds have been
resaonably kind most of the night enabling us to make a few extra
miles. It is a great feeling to see 9 and 10 knots on the clock instead of
the usual 5 to 6. But they have eased off again this afternoon and
evening.
We have now decided
to keep south of Java as the wind predictions are much the same as on the north
side. We also save about 24 hours in extra distance and the ocean swell
aren't too bad. It is a shame in some ways as there are a couple of
interesting ports on the north side. However none of us feel like going
through the bureaucratic run-around again for a short visit. So it looks
like next stop is Bali. We don't expect mobile contact before
then.
We found some spare
fishing line this afternoon so rigged up a new lure for another try at
catching dinner. Still no bites so chicken for dinner, but we are more
hopeful now.

Wind not too
cooperative - NNE-NNW at 8-12 most of the day puts it too far aft to be of much
use. Occasional puffs of 12-15 teases us. So motorsailing al;l day with one
engine ticking over. Just abeam of western side of Sunda Strait between Sumatra
and Java, hopefully tomorrow will have a view of Krakatoa as we cross over to
Java. But more hopeful for the wind to fill in as forecast by the gribs, to a
solid 15kn.
