Quite a bit further south than we planned.
Set off for the mouth of the Gironde (50 miles)
When we arrived was a tricky entrance and strong tidal streams
Decided to carry on to Arcachon ( 60 miles)
When we arrived was a tricky entrance and strong tidal streams
Called coastguard and he advised against entry.
Decided to carry on to Bayonne ( 65 miles)
Slight problem, we had to pass through a firing range, fortunately they do
not start till 2pm
So we were able to race through just in time to prevent the mast from
being blown off…..maybe…
So 24 hours later we are in Bayonne.
Very friendly Basque French port, our last stop in France.
Not explored yet as too tired but more later.
Photos show us leaving La Rochelle, a sailing chocolate Labrador on bow of
French boat,
A crane playing conkers at mouth of Bayonne entrance
A chart showing our 175 mile journey and the “firing range “ right in the
middle.
