Dunes and mirages

As we went deeper into the desert we came across
a deep canyon and later majestic deep red Dunes, some 300 metres
high.
The branch shown is off a "Thorn"
tree.
Surprisingly Giraffes eat from these and manage
to skilfully wrap their tongues around to remove the leaves without spiking
themselves.
Also that is a real mirage...or is it a
mirage?
